Abstract

Chapter 1 of Library Technology Reports (vol. 51, no. 7) “Mobile Devices: Service with Intention,” introduces the focus of using mobile devices and tablets in library service with intent and assessment, identifying common themes of the five case studies.

Author Biographies

Rebecca K. Miller

Rebecca K. Miller is head of library learning services at the Pennsylvania State University. She holds an MSLS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MAEd from Virginia Tech. Along with Heather Moorefield-Lang and Carolyn Meier, Rebecca has coauthored two ALA Editions books, coauthored one other issue of Library Technology Reports, and copresented numerous presentations, webinars, and workshops on the topic of tablets and mobile devices in libraries. In addition to exploring new technologies in libraries, Rebecca is interested in leadership, organizational change, and instructional design. Heather Moorefield-Lang

Heather Moorefield-Lang is an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina in the School of Library and Information Science. She received her master’s in library science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her doctorate in education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research is focused on technology integration in education and libraries. She is the chair of the American Association of School Librarians Best Websites for Teaching and Learning Committee. Her current research is involved with makerspaces and subsequent technology implementation in libraries and education. Carolyn Meier

Carolyn Meier is a learning services librarian and coordinates first-year instruction in Newman Library at Virginia Tech. She has an EDS in instructional technology from Virginia Tech. She is a past cochair of the Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) Transition to College Committee. Her work and research interests focus on information literacy, assessment, and new methods for improving instruction and finding new technologies to reach students.
