Abstract

Chapter 1 of Library Technology Reports (vol. 52, no. 6), “The Knowledge Base at the Center of the Universe”

Introduces the topic of electronic resources knowledge bases and defines their core functions and components. It addresses the evolution of the knowledge base from a component of early OpenURL resolvers to a broadly integrated piece of library infrastructure.

Author Biography

Kristen Wilson

Kristen Wilson is Associate Head of Acquisitions and Discovery at the North Carolina State University Libraries. She manages the department’s serials unit and has been involved in the development of a local electronic resources management system and the Global Open Knowledgebase (GOKb). She has published on the topics of knowledge bases, electronic resources management, and workflow analysis in journals such as Serials Review and Library Resources and Technical Services. She holds a BA in English and Journalism from Lehigh University and an MSLIS from Syracuse University.
