Abstract

Chapter 3 of Library Technology Reports (vol. 53, no. 6), “Open Source Library Systems: The Current State of the Art”

Covering the needs of library consortia, Evergreen integrated library system began in 2004 and has since been implemented by several consortia and individual libraries in the United States. Chapter 3 of Library Technology Reports (vol. 53, no. 6), “Open Source Library Systems: The Current State of the Art,” explores this open source solution in depth, examining its history, development, functionality, and the spin-off organizations and hosting platforms that have been created, including Equinox Software, Inc., and Sequoia. This chapter concludes with a forecast on what to expect with the future of Evergreen.

Marshall Breeding

Marshall Breeding is an independent consultant, speaker, and author. He is the editor of Smart Libraries Newsletter and creator and editor of Library Technology Guides (https://librarytechnology.org). He has authored the annual “Library Systems Report” published most recently in American Libraries. He has also edited and authored several books, including Library Technology Buying Strategies. Formerly the director for innovative technology and research for the Vanderbilt University Library, he regularly teaches workshops and presents internationally at library conferences.
