Abstract

Chapter 2 of Library Technology Reports (vol. 57, no. 6), “Purposes,” explains that metadata application profiles (MAPs) provide benefits for metadata creators, managers, and consumers throughout the processes of metadata creation, implementation, use, and reuse. Different kinds of MAPs may provide different benefits and be best suited to different applications. Providing support for metadata interoperability and reuse is a significant goal for MAP design and implementation. Keeping considerations of both semantic and technical interoperability in mind during the MAP-making process can help achieve this goal.
